Notes on Installing ADI on Workstations:

Prior to doing an install, verify that you have valid application logins and passwords so that you can verify that the installation is working ok.

Be sure that you have administrative access.  Domain admin rights are not sufficient.  You must be a local administrator on that machine.  If you get the error “Failed to create service for Net8 Client”.  At Goodfellow, when working with FSA machines, you can try the admin login/password which I can provide to you (NTTDKCMO/*****) and check the “workstation only” box.  Just cancel when network connections fail.  If you need LAN support at Goodfellow, you can try 539-6309.  Here at Abrams you can use 335-8222.

When installing on Lisa Randolph’s computer, after running the Diagnostic Wizard (always run this after install and patch application are complete) I got a message that the file c:\winnt\system32\Grid32.ocx would have to be replaced with the file c:\orant\gldi90\support\Grid32.oc_ . When you copy the file change the oc_ to ocx .  The ADI install CD provides these updated dll’s and checks to see that the updated versions are in …system32.

If you are outside the firewall, be sure that you have vpn turned on or some other form of inside-the-firewall access enabled.

You must apply the patchset.  We are using the patchset that is attached to SIMON issue 1348 (p2858094_710_MSWIN.exe) and this patchset corresponds to version 7.1.22.24.04 of ADI.

When you are installing on Pentium 4 workstations the installer may hang.  If it does, you need to use the following workaround:

  1. Create a temporary directory on your machine.
  2. Copy the contents on the Oracle Server/Client CD to this temp dir (step 1).
  3. Search the directory structure for the existence of a file: symcjit.dll.
  4. Rename each file from symcjit.dll to symcjit.old.
  5. Run the setup.exe from the copied "Drive:\install\win32" directory.
  6. This will ensure a correct installation on an Intel Pentium 4 machine.
